After an 8 year hiatus, the triumphant “Queen of Rock 'n Roll," is back and hitting the road—beginning this October!
By this point, it seems as if the ‘Diva’ thing has been done to death. But the exception to all the hype and hoopla is Tina Turner, who was, is, and always will be the real deal. At 68, with her sexy, smoky voice, and thigh-high hemlines, the seemingly ageless soul songbird—still sizzles! As one of the most dynamic female soul singers in the history of music, Turner has rocked the house for more than half a century—becoming one of the most successful rock stars of all time.
Among the most popular and influential performers, Turner is legendary for her contributions to Rock, R&B and Soul music. Her powerful voice and the raw intensity of her stage shows have brought Turner fame and a presence in American music since the fifties.
With sales of 170 million albums and a phenomenal number of hit records to her career—Tina Turner is the undisputed “Queen of Rock n’ Roll.” The eight-time Grammy Award winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, has recently revealed that she is coming out of retirement and making her long-awaited return to the stage. Eight years after quitting life on the road, the singing legend will set off her tour beginning October 1(08).
“After performing with Beyonce at The Grammy Awards, the response was overwhelming,” commented Turner. “Everywhere I went people were asking me when I was going back on tour. So after a lot of thought and planning, I can answer the only way I know how …. See you in Kansas City where we’ll kick the tour off!”
It was due to this overwhelming reaction, and requests from fans all over the world to perform live once again, that she decided to do some select concerts in North America and Europe. The announcement came during a special taping of Oprah Winfrey’s talk show in Las Vegas where Turner revealed actress pal Sophia Loren convinced her to perform again, telling her she should stop "lolling about her Swiss home and get back to work."
With sensual, soulful and powerful vocals that have been part of music history for over four decades, the singer’s explosive live set will include everything from early career singles “River Deep Mountain High,” “Proud Mary,” and “Nutbush City Limits” through solo superstar smashes “Let’s Stay Together,” “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” “We Don’t Need Another Hero” and “The Best.” The set, the production, the songs, and Turner’s unique stage presence will delight her legions of fans who have followed the legendary diva’s extraordinary creative journey, while seducing new admirers and proving that her vocal majesty still continues its reign to this day.
According to Billboard Boxscore, Turner's 2000 tour, billed as her last, was the top-grossing jaunt of that year. It grossed almost $110 million from 89 shows and drew more than 2 million people, averaging more than 24,000 a night in attendance.
Yet, through the decades, Turner has not only been known for her indestructible 1,000-watt voice, voluminous hair and sexy costumes—but also for her killer legs which ooze sexuality with every step she takes. In every sense, the woman has legs.
